Can you Move?
Figuring out whether you are eligible to migrate to a new country is no mean feat.
So we’ve put together a summary of the entry options available to skilled migrants.
Australia welcomes highly skilled and experienced people through one of the following categories of the Migration
Programme:
- Independent Migrants
- State/Territory Nominated Independent
- Employer Nomination
- Business Skills
- Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme
- Skilled – Australian sponsored
Independent migrants are people whose education, skills and ready ‘employability’ will contribute to the Australian economy and are not sponsored by an employer or relative in Australia. This group forms the largest component of skilled migrants each year. The State/Territory Nominated Independent scheme enables state and territory governments to sponsor skilled migrants and their families in the independent migrants category.
Employer Nomination allows Australian employers to nominate workers from overseas for permanent entry to Australia when a position cannot be filled from within the local workforce.
The Business Skills category is intended to attract business people to settle and establish a new business, or to become an owner or part owner of an existing business and to take an active role in that business in Australia.
The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme enables employers in regional and low population growth areas of Australia to fill skill vacancies that they have been unable to fill through the local labour market. This is one of several government initiatives designed to help state and territory governments in their efforts to boost development in regional Australia.
Skilled – Australian sponsored category migrants are selected on the basis of their age, skills, qualifications, English language abilities and family relationships. They must be sponsored by a relative already living in Australia.
