Project Manager, gen-i
Sydney

My wife and I were fortunate to have our company sponsor us with a temporary business visa (e457) to move to and live and work in Australia. We always wanted to work abroad, especially in Australia, as the country is still developing, the lifestyle sits between New York and London and there is plenty of sunshine here, which was the main reason behind the move.

I met gen-i at a roadshow in London. Upon arrival in Australia I took a few months off to rest before contacting gen-i again, and shortly thereafter was offered a position based in Sydney’s CBD, which was exactly what I wanted.

I love working in the city as it is not as crowded as London. You can actually get a seat on the train during rush hours in the mornings and evenings. I settled in pretty quickly. My manager is very supportive and the working environment is terrific. People work very hard and although they are extremely busy, everyone is willing to give you all the support you need so you don’t feel isolated as a newcomer.

We spend the weekends enjoying the glorious sunshine that Australia is well known for, and exploring the south coast and its national parks. Of course, there are occasions when we miss our families back home, but the beautiful beaches and weather compensate that to some extent.

If you are considering a move to Australia, just give it a go. You will love the wide open space and fantastic opportunities on offer. We have no regrets since moving here in May 2007 and just love being part of the Australian lifestyle.
