Migration history

Australia has long welcomed migrants for the skills and new ideas that they bring.

South Africans are drawn to Australia for its relatively safe communities and similar way of life. Over the last 15 years large numbers have made Australia their home. In fact, right now over 100,000 South African born people live in Australia.

The following graph shows the trend of migration from the UK to Australia which has significantly increased in recent years. This is largely due to Australia’s demand for skills and the government’s proactive approach to attracting talented people.
